As NORCECA informed on its website, Pan American Cups in 2018 will stand as qualification tournaments for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Eight teams per gender will compete in the 2018 Pan American Cup and the top five ranked teams at the end of each intercontinental tournament will get an automatic berth to the Games.

The Women’s Pan Am Cup will take place in July 2018 while the Men’s competition will be disputed in August 2018.

Peru, as host country, is qualified for both volleyball events. The other two teams – one from NORCECA and one from South America – will come out of final qualification tournaments with a minimum of four participants, NORCECA published.

The Pan American Games is a major sporting event in the North, Central America, Caribbean and South America featuring summer sports, in which athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held every four years in the year before the Summer Olympics.

Argentina in Men’s and the United States in Women’s competition defend volleyball trophies which they won in Toronto, Canada, in 2015.
