PAC W: Dominican girls and USA in semifinals

The Dominican Republic and USA joined Canada and Brazil in the semifinals of the Pan American Cup for Women in Santo Domingo. And not only that, these four teams secured their spot at the next year’s Pan American Games in Peru.

In the quarterfinal matches, USA defeated Colombia in straight sets while Dominican girls were luckier in the fifth set against Puerto Rico.

The Americans need only one hour to outplayed Colombia thank to Aiyana Whitney who scored 20 points followed by Chiaka Ogbogu and Haleigh Washington who scored 11 points each. Dayana Segovia Elles was the best Colombian with 6 points.

On the other side, Yonkaira Peña Isabel and Brayelin Martinez led the Dominican team with 20 and 18 points while Daly Santana had 24 points for Puerto Rico followed by Shirley Ferrer Fontanez with 16. 

The Dominican Republic will play Brazil in the semifinals while USA will battle Canada.

 

Quarterfinal matches

Dominican Republic – Puerto Rico 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10)

USA – Colombia 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-17)
