OQT W: Kiraly decides to take fewer players to Olympic qualification than maximum allowed

The head coach of the U.S. national team Karch Kiraly decided to take 13 players to the FIVB Women’s Volleyball International Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (August 1-4), despite the fact that the FIVB regulations allow enlisting of up to 14 players.

The FIVB Nations League titleholders USA will compete in Pool C at home in Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana. The rivals of the No. 3 national team in the world (FIVB ranking) will be Bulgaria, Argentina and Kazakhstan.

The roster of 13 players that Kiraly has chosen does not have the name of a famous middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo who is pregnant.

Outside hitters: Michelle Bartsch-Hackley, Kim Hill, Jordan Larson, Kelsey Robinson

Opposite hitters: Annie Drews, Jordan Thompson

Middle blockers: Tori Dixon, Dana Rettke, Haleigh Washington

Setters: Lauren Carlini, Jordyn Poulter

Liberos: Megan Courtney, Mary Lake

Pool A (Wrocław, Poland): Serbia, Puerto Rico, Thailand, Poland.

Pool B (Ningbo, China): China, Turkey, Germany, Czech Republic.

Pool C (Shreveport, USA): USA, Argentina, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan.

Pool D (Uberlândia, Brazil): Brazil, Dominican Republic, Cameroon, Azerbaijan.

Pool E (Kaliningrad, Russia): Russia, Korea, Canada, Mexico.

Pool F (Catania, Italy): Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Kenya.
