Shanghai defeated the reigning champions Beijing in Round 2 of the 2019/20 Super League – Top 8 (Pool E), inflicting the first defeat to the rivals this season and, at the same time, keeping their invincibility that now extended to eight games overall (6-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in Top 8). Shanghai was led by Louisa Lippmann who scored 31 points, while libero Wang Weiyi made 86% reception (21 digs, 71% excellent). As for Beijing, Liu Xiaotong and American TeTori Dixon poured in 18 points apiece, while Wang Lin made 84% reception (25 digs, 72% excellent).
Tianjin also remained unbeaten after prevailing over Jiangsu in four sets in Pool F, only two days after the fiasco at the FIVB Club World Championship, which they finished in the last place. Tianjin’s main star Zhu Ting didn’t play due to wrist injury which she sustained in the aforementioned competition and which turned to be quite serious.
