Although the Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed for next year, there’s still a cloud of uncertainty standing over holding the event.

As it’s already known, the Tokyo Olympics, which were originally planned to start tomorrow, were postponed for one year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organizer Japan has announced measures to reduce the risk of the infection and the additional costs of rescheduling the event. However, the COVID-19 spread has started again with the new wave in many countries across the world which has put a cloud of uncertainty over holding the event despite it’s to be held a year from now.

“Whether the Olympics can be held or not depends on whether human beings can overcome the coronavirus or not,” Yoshirō Mori, the President of the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee, said in an interview for NHK and added: “If the circumstances were to remain unchanged, then the Games couldn’t be held. But it’s not the kind of decision that Japan alone can make. We have to ask other countries, and the International Olympic Committee has the authority to make a decision.”

Mori stressed that progress in the development of vaccines and treatments will be crucial in determining whether the Games can actually be held or not and denied any possibility of holding the event without spectators. Still, Mori sent an encouraging message to all sports enthusiasts: “I don’t think the current situation will continue for a year from now.”
