Calcit Volley, the reigning Slovenian women’s volleyball champions, signed Martina Guiggi, the former captain of Italy National Team!

Martina Guiggi, the former Italy National Team captain, returned to playing volleyball after a one-year break due to pregnancy. The 36-year-old middle blocker will do so in the jersey of the reigning Slovenian champions Calcit.

Thus, Guiggi will follow the footsteps of her husband Mitar Đurić. The Greek international earlier became the new member of ACH Volley Ljubljana, meaning that these two will be only 25 km apart from each other given that’s the distance between Ljubljana and Kamnik, the city where Guiggi’s new club is based.

Guiggi was one of the protagonists of Italy’s campaign to win the title at the CEV Europan Championship and FIVB World Cup – both in 2007. She was also a two-time Olympian (Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016). The last club for which Guiggi competed was Greece’s APS Aias (2018/19).
