With the conclusion of the matches played today, and regardless of the fact that not all the teams played the same number of encounters, the 2020/21 Japanese Women’s V.League Division 1 regular season came to an end. All matches that were postponed due to the problems related to the coronavirus until today won’t be taking place subsequently. That’s why there are some teams who have played 21 games in the regular season, but also some teams that played only 17 games. For that reason, the regulations of the competition have changed regarding the ranking method so instead of the number of wins as the main criteria, the win-loss ratio has determined the ranking.
The Toray Arrows left all the other teams far behind in the charts, noting 21 wins in as many matches and are ranked first. Thus, in the playoff semifinals, they will face No.4 Denso Airybees. The Ageo Medics are the biggest losers of the new criteria for determining the ranking because they had the same number of wins as the Airybees but the worst win-loss ratio. They had 12 wins and 8 defeats, while Airybees had 12-7.
The 2nd-placed JT Marvelous and 3rd-placed NEC Red Rockets both suffered defeats on the last day of the regular season but kept these positions in the charts, meaning they will face each other in the semis.
Both single-game semifinals, as well as the final, will be held at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.
