The JT Marvelous are back-to-back winners of the Japanese Women’s Championship.
Prior to a single-game playoff final in Tokyo, Toray Arrows were undefeated throughout the entire 2020/21 V.League Division 1 season (22-0) but a defeat today, the first in the competition, against the 2nd seed JT Marvelous cost them a title. The Nishinomiya club prevailed by a 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20).
The US National Team member Andrea Drews scored 25 points for the Marvelous, while Thai international Thatdao Nuekjang set up as many as 7 blocks. Azerbaijani-Slovakian Jana Kulan was on a high-level in Toray, tallying 28 points. Due to having a key role in defending opponents’ attacks (79.2 % reception), the Marvelous libero Mako Kobata was named MVP of the final.
