CSM Târgoviște crowned nearly flawless campaign in the 2020/21 Romanian Women’s Divizia A1 with the title, first-ever in the competition. The team coached by Italian Giovanni Caprara was unstoppable in the second phase of the championship in which the top 4 clubs from the first stage have qualified, winning all six matches in 2 tournaments of which they hosted the other one.
In the last match of the season, Târgoviște (Bulgarian Mariya Yordanova 15 points) defeated CS Dinamo București in straight sets but they achieved key victory for the title against the defending champions CSM Volei Alba-Blaj (3-0: 25-15, 25-15, 25-19) in the penultimate round. Târgoviște ended the season with 7 points more than the 2nd-ranked Alba (80-73). The new titleholders had an exceptional season, where out of a total of 28 matches in the league, they won 27.
Just as Târgoviște in women’s competition, CS Arcada Galați mathematically secured their men’s title one round before the end of the final tournament, doing so by beating CSS CNE LAPI Dej SCM Zalău 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) on Friday. Led by Alexandru Raţă (24 points), Arcada beat CSA Steaua București in the last round, finishing the season with +11 in relation to 2nd-placed SCMU Craiova (67-56).
