The finals of the Belgian cup held this past Sunday at Lotto Arena in Antwerp broke all records as 5,500 fans were in attendance, a total of 55 journalists were accredited and the girls of VC OUDEGEM could claim the trophy for the first time in history as they beat pre-favorite Asterix KIELDRECHT 3:1.

VC OUDEGEM started out well but missed out on four opportunities to seize the opening set that was eventually cashed by Sarah Smits for Asterix. However, the side mentored by Gert Vande Broek – who is also the head coach of Belgium’s national team – started making a way too many mistakes thereby paving the way with gold for VC OUDEGEM that was anchored by an outstanding Lore Gillis. She ultimately turned into the real match-winner for the side from the small village of Oudegem that wrote history by claiming the cup for the very first time.
