The tournament will be held at the Buon Ma Thuot Gymnasium from April 29 to May 5, with eight strong teams vying for the lone ticket up for grabs in the FIVB Club World Championship in Switzerland in October.

The participating teams in Pool A are: Lienviet Postbank (Vietnam), Idea Khonkaen (Thailand), Zhetyssu (Kazakhstan) and Taipei (Chinese Taipei).

Pool B will see Guangdong Evergrande (China), 4.25 Sports Club (DPR Korea), PFU Blue Cats (Japan) and Giti Pasand (Iran).

The round-robin preliminaries will commence on April 29, with Guangdong Evergrande taking on Giti Pasand in the first clash at 13.30, followed by the match between Zhetyssu and Taipei ahead of the opening ceremony. Hosts Lienviet Postbank will then challenge Idea Khonkaen and PFU Blue Cats will take on the team from DPR Korea.

Control Committee Chairman Shanrit Wongprasert and Organizing Committee Chairwoman Mai Hoa Nie Kdam held a press conference on Saturday.

“After our success in hosting the local league VTV Cup three times here in Dac Lac, this Asian Women’s Club Championship will be the first time for us to have the opportunity to host an international tournament,” Mai Hoa said. “It’s a source of great pride for our city. This can serve as a stepping stone for our attempts to host more major competitions in the near future.”

Shanrit commented: “This is one of the most important tournaments for Asian nations. It’s a qualification tournament of the FIVB Club World Championship and only the eventual winners will represent Asia in the star-studded world club meet.”
