On this occasion, Bulgaria proved too powerful in all facets, but didn’t have it all their own way. The home side, supported by the passionate home fans opened a 18-13 lead in the first set, but Argentina seemed to stall under the expectation so Bulgaria clinched the first set 28-26.

The second set was a lot tighter. Bulgaria put their noses in front at the finishing post and claimed the second set 25-23 and go 2-0 up overall.

Quiroga and company steamed to a 25-20 in the third set win to reduce the match deficit to 2-1 giving the 5,000 fans plenty more to sing about.

Sokolov was unstoppable and he did enough to get Bulgaria to 25-23 in the fourth set.

The World League’s second best scorer in the Intercontinental Round with 209 points Tsvetan Sokolov was Bulgaria’s impressive scoring weapon with a day-high 29 points.
