ANCH W: Kenya claim fourth win as Tunisia upset fighting Senegal

Host Kenya added continued entertaining home crowd after their fourth straight victory over Cameroon 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) in the fourth day of the 2013 Women's African nations Championship held at Kasarani Moi International Sports Center in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday.

Kenya raised their points to 12 and play on Thursday against Tunisia who set their third victory against Senegal 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 18-25, 25-22) for the title of the 16th edition. Egypt recorded their first win after grueling five set Marathon 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12).

By the end of the fourth day Kenya led the 6 nation tournament with 4-0 (12 points), followed by Tunisia 3-1 (9 points), Cameroon third 3-1 (7 points), Egypt fourth 1-3 (3 points) and Senegal 1-3 (3 points) and finally Algeria 0-4 (2 points).

The competition will be concluded on Thursday with the fifth and last day of the round robin tournament where Kenya need only two sets against Tunisia to secure their eighth crown. Cameroon face Algeria while Egypt play Senegal for the other ranking positions.

Egypt v Algeria 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12)

Egypt improved their win- loss ratio to 1-3 gaining 3 points, While Algeria dropped to 0-4 with 2 points.

Egypt’s outside hitter Farah Ahmed was the best scorer from her side with 13 points followed by Nirmeen Seifelnasr 12 points. Algeria’s big gun Safia Boukhima was her team scorer with 21 points followed center Mouni Abderrahim 14 points.

Tunisia v Senegal 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 18-25, 25-22)

Tunisia rebounded in the optimum time to stop the Senegal’s fever in their way to win their tournament’s third match 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 18-25, 25-22).

Tunisia improved their competition record to 3-1 with 9 points, while Senegal dropped to 1-3 with 3 points.

Kenya v Cameroon (25-22, 25-20, 25-22)

Kenya fought bravely to stop the late Cameroon motivations to win their fourth tournaments victory 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) in front of 1500 spectators.

Kenya improved their record to 4-0 and stayed as the only unbeaten team and the only who didn’t concede a set till now. Cameroon dropped to 3-1 with 7 points.
