Stiinta won Romania’s national league for the first time after 8 years and the participation in the CEV Champions League is on top of the priorities for the local management as well as the reason for much excitement among the fans. In order to perform well in this elite competition, Stiinta has strengthened its roster signing for another year experienced Netherlands setter Kim Staelens who last year chiefly contributed to the title in the national league.

To complete the roster Serbian libero Marina Vujović was also transferred to Bacau after playing in the CEV Champions League with another Romanian club, namely 2004 Tomis Constanta. Other players transferred to Bacau include Argentinean Aylin Pereira, Serbia’s Aleksandra Petrović and Marina Cvetanović as well as Slovenia’s Monika Potokar. The group was recently introduced to the press as Stiinta did also announce its sponsors and partners for the coming season, including the Mayor of Bacau, Aerostar Bacau as well as Agricola International.

“We know that this is a very demanding competition and we hope to live up to the expectations of all those who have helped us embark on this adventure” said head coach Florin Grapa. “We have been having some friendly matches to prepare for the coming season where we hope to retain our title in the national league and win also the national cup. We also hope to be in our best shape for the start of the CEV Volleyball Champions League for we know that the games there will be played at a totally different level. I would like to thank all those who have helped Stiinta become stronger and hope we will win as many matches as possible in this competition though I have to admit already now that this is going to be difficult. I would already like to welcome our opponents to Bacau hoping that they will enjoy their stay here in Romania. Our supporters are also invited to come and attend world-class matches”.

“To play in the CEV Champions League is the dream of any Volleyball player. This dream will soon come true for us and since we got this chance, we want to achieve the best possible results in this competition” said Mihaela Herlea.

“I have really enjoyed this experience here in Bacau where I have met extraordinary people and great teammates” added Kim Staelens. “I did not hesitate when I was asked to sign to stay for another season and I look forward to the matches in the CEV Volleyball Champions League where I am confident we can achieve some good results”.

Stiinta Bacau will be playing in Pool F together with Switzerland’s Volero Zurich, Dinamo Kazan of Russia and Poland’s Tauron MKS Dabrowa Gornicza.
