Australia pulled back a small Serbia lead to level at 15-15 in the first set, again relying on left-arm opposite Lincoln Alexander Williams, but Serbia regained control and through the points of wing spiker Uroš Kovačević (4) and middle blocker Srećko Lisinac (5) took the set 21-18.

The second set was again close and Australia even had a set point at 20-19, but Serbia responded with a powerful spike down the line from captain Aleksandar Atanasijević and some strong serving to secure the set 22-20.

Serbia controlled the third set from early on to take it 21-14 and complete their victory. Lisinac (12), Kovačević (11) and Atanasijević (10) provided most of the team’s points.

After scoring 10 in Australia’s opening match against Iran, Williams was again his team’s source of points and added another 14 to his total.

On day three of competition Serbia will defend their unbeaten record against Mexico, while Australia will look for their first victory against Venezuela.
