Dominican Republic and China finished in first place of Pools A and B, respectively, at the conclusion of the preliminary round in the inaugural FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship Open on Wednesday night.

Japan and United States completed the round of the final-four setting up a very familiar scene as teams from the Asian and NORCECA Confederations will be facing each other in the semifinal phase on Friday at Baja California High Performance Center.

In the battle for the medals, China square off against Japan while Dominican Republic clash withUnited States. In the semis for the 5-8 positions, Turkey meets Germany and Brazil go against Italy.

Japan finished Pool A with a 5-0 win-loss record and 12 points, but three of their victories came via 3-2 results, valid only two points. The Dominican Republic had a 4-1 record with a total 13 points as all their triumphs were via 3-0 and 3-1 scores while suffering a 2-3 loss to Japan.

China finished with 5-0 record and 14 points and USA finished second in Pool B at 4-1 with 11 points.
