Though Posojilnica was assigned to the toughest of the preliminary Pools – starring Italy’s Lube Banca Marche MACERATA, as well as Russia’s Zenit KAZAN and Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK – the Austrian champions will try to get some valuable experience from their participation in this competition.
“If we are not afraid of our extremely strong opponents, we may even cause a surprise” says head coach Johan Verstappen.
The participation in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Champions League also means that Posojilnica will be playing their home matches in Klagenfurt and namely in a very modern sports hall, something that shall have a positive impact on the players.
“A well-equipped and modern stadium like the one we got here in Klagenfurt is an extra motivation for our team” says Sports Director Martin Micheu. “We just hope that many Volleyball fans and sports enthusiasts from all over Carinthia will come and support us”.
Last year’s title in the national league and the right to participate in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Champions League represents the greatest achievement for the club. This means that in the coming season Posojilnica will be trying to retain their title in the Austrian league and also to perform well in the Champions League. The representatives of the main sponsors – Zveza Bank and Kelag – Rudi Urban and Werner Pietsch expressed their wish and hope that Posojilnica will win at least one game in that “group of death”. With this in mind, Posojilnica will be trying their utmost to make this wish come true so as to boost the popularity of Volleyball in their region.
