Czech rookies VK OSTRAVA have lost two matches in a row in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League as they opened with a 1:3 home defeat to Olympiacos PIRAEUS before losing in straight sets to Noliko MAASEIK last Tuesday in Belgium.

Russia’s champions have not lost a set so far in the competition and they will be the heavy favorite in Ostrava too.

We know the strength of our next opponent but we will try our best and push our game to the limits. Of course we would like to win but if we could take a set, that would be a success as well” says Czech mentor Zdenek Smejkal. “We will try to minimize our errors and I assume that Belogorie does not take a victory for granted.”

This game is going to be a unique experience for the young players of VK OSTRAVA. With the only exception of Tomas Siroky – who was with the Czech national team at the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley – they have never crossed their ways with the likes of Dmitriy Muserskiy, Georg Grozer or Dmitriy Ilinykh. The home match with BELGOROD is going to be a major attraction also for all Czech Volleyball fans. “Belogorie had to fight hard to win two sets with Olympiacos last week before everything went easy for them in the third. This is good news for us because our match with Olympiacos was balanced and the score very closeSmejkal stresses.

VK OSTRAVA receiver Erik Sundberg is still nursing an injury and won’t be available for the home game with Belogorie. On Saturday VK OSTRAVA won their last fixture in the Czech national league edging Dukla LIBEREC 3:2 and the team is now looking forward to the clash with the “Russian bear”.
