Portugal’s head coach Hugo Silva has already shortlisted 16 players and out of this group he will retain the 12 who will compete in Nis and play hosts Serbia, plus Slovenia and the F.Y.R. of Macedonia.

The preparation phase includes three friendly matches with Spain scheduled for December 28-30 in Madrid.
The 16 players called by Silva are: Marcel Gil, Idner Martins, Manuel Silva, Alexandre Ferreira, Tiago Violas, Nuno Pinheiro, Filipe Pinto, Pedro Nogueira, João José, Valdir Sequeira, Flavio Cruz, Rui Santos, Hugo Gaspar, André Lopes, Hugo Ribeiro, and Diego Rodrigues.
