Pourya Fayazi decided to end his international career. The 28-year-old outside hitter said goodbye to the national team after head coach Vladimir Alekno announced the squad of the Iran National Team for the Tokyo Olympics. Fayazi was among the group that held the final stage of preparation in Tehran. Alekno announced the 12-man squad that will go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo with two liberos at the expense of an outside hitter – in this case, Fayazi.

The new member of Paykan Tehran has represented the Iran senior national team since 2011, winning Asian Championship and Asian Games once each. Fayazi was named Best Spiker of the 2015 Asian Championship. Playing for youth national teams of his country, Fayazi won the gold medal in the 2015 Asian U23 Championship where he was named MVP and Best Outside Spiker, while he has been recognized Best Scorer of the 2008 Asian U18 Championship.
