It seems that the legendary Iranian male volleyball player, Seyed Mousavi, will bear consequences for criticizing the country’s federation this summer.

Seyed Mousavi, the legendary Iranian player, said he was banned from leaving the country for six months. The 35-year-old middle blocker, who has just returned to play in his homeland on a club level after three years, posted on Instagram that his passport was taken away.

“Brother, deputy prosecutor, we love our country. We haven’t gone anywhere until now, and we’re not going anywhere now. If we go, we’ll be back soon. We don’t need to be forbidden to go. Because nowhere else is your home,” Mousavi wrote.

Mousavi’s exit ban

He received a note of a six-month exit ban at the airport in Mashhad, the second-most populous city in Iran. Even though no reason for taking the player’s passport and imposing a ban was stated, it’s speculated it was a retaliation for his criticism of the Iranian federation (IRIVF) prior to the 2022 FIVB World Championship and declining to play in the event.
