Iran Men have a serious problem ahead of the 2022 FIVB World Championship. Newly appointed captain Mousavi quit playing for the national team! And that only a few hours after the appointment.

The 35-year-old legendary middle blocker ended his adventure in the national team after the unsuccessful campaign in the Olympic Games in Tokyo last year (Iran didn’t even come out of the group). However, he was set to return to the upcoming World Championships to give a hand to his teammates. Then, the same day he was promoted to captain of the Behrouz Ataei’s squad, in an interview with journalists, Mousavi complained about the terrible conditions inside the team. A two-time Asian Championship’s Best Blocker by statistics and one-time Best Middle Blocker of Asian Championship and World Cup also complained about the low bonuses for the team for the participation in the last FIVB VNL in which Iran finished seventh. Mousavi concluded by informing the public that he’s leaving the preparations and resigning from playing for the national colors in the upcoming Wagner Memorial and World Champs, though he didn’t rule out appearances in the national team in the following years.
