In a Grand Final of the 1st prestigious tournament for the end of 2023/2024 season, Al Arabi SC clinched the Qatar Cup with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-27, 28-26, 27-25) victory over their arch-rival, Al Rayyan SC. This victory adds to Al Arabi’s impressive season haul, following their win in the Qatari Super League, further establishing their dominance in this season competitions.
Al Arabi’s roster this year was notably strengthened for the season final by the additions of Cuban outside hitter José Miguel Gutiérrez, formerly of Italy’s SuperLega team Prisma Taranto, and Hungarian opposite Krisztián Pádár from Japan’s Toray Arrows. Despite bolstering their lineup with Cuban outside hitter Miguel Ángel López from Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro, Al Rayyan SC could not match the prowess of Al Arabi SC in the final.
Krisztián Pádár was the standout player of the final match, scoring a remarkable 28 points, which included a 51% attack rate, 4 aces, and 3 block points. He was closely followed by José Miguel Gutiérrez, who contributed 21 points with an impressive seven aces. On the other hand, Oliver Venno led Al Rayyan with 21 points, supported by Miguel Ángel López who added 20 points.
The match was marked by a heavily one-sided offensive play, with over 70% of the attacks involving the key foreign players, turning the game into a duel between these top performers.
