Slovenia made history by clinching the top spot in Pool A at the Paris 2024 Games. After securing their first-ever victory on the Olympic stage and advancing to the quarterfinals, Slovenia outperformed the defending champions France in a thrilling 3-2 match (25-20, 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 15-11) at the South Paris Arena 1 on Friday.
This win not only marked Slovenia’s third consecutive victory in pool play but also handed France their first defeat on home soil. Slovenia ended their pool campaign undefeated with eight points, while France, with six points, also advances to the elimination rounds.
Slovenian opposite Tonček Štern led his team with 28 points, while Klemen Čebulj added 16, and Pajenk 14 points. France’s top performers included Earvin Ngapeth with 21 points and Jean Patry with 19.
