TUN M: Traditional forces end victorious on African Club Champs opening

All the traditional forces secured their first victory on the opening day of the 2012 Men’s African Club Championship held here at the Olympic Sousse and Msaken Halls in Sousse, Tunisia on Saturday. Defending champions Ahly of Egypt, runner up Prisons of Kenya, the Tunisian compatriots Etoile du Sahel and Esperance came victorious in the opening day beside Bejaia of Algeria that claimed the toughest victory over the contenders FAP of Cameroon.

Pool A  

Pool A showed expected victory for the organizers Etoile du Sahel (TUN) over AS Vaora (MAD) 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) in one side game dominated by the winners. Ahly Ben Ghazi (LBY) took over Sun Shine (NGR) 3-1 (29-27, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18) in a strong match the featured dominance for Ben Ghazi before Sun shine emerged in the third set, but the Libyan team won the crucial points to win the match 3-1.

Pool B

Esperance of Tunisia hammered Agosto of Angola in straight sets (25-12, 25-11, 25-19) in 56 minutes. Led by experienced players like the setter Ghazi Guidara  and the opposite Hicheme Kaabi, the winners succeeded to overwhelm the match specially in the first and second sets. Agosto emerged relatively during the third set in the first existence for an Angolan team at the continental championship.  Al Ahly (EGY) played with many substitutes, but they swept  Inter (Congo Brazzaville) 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17).  In the only pool that comprises 6 teams GSU (KEN) trounced APR (RWA) 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-23).

Pool C 

Prisons (KEN) showed their  consistency to overwhelm Ahly Tripoli (LBY) 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23)F Terrestre (Congo RD) played their utmost to down Omni Sport (CIV) 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17).

Pool D

El Guish (EGY) used their weapons to clinch their first victory over the struggling Manga Sport (Gabon) 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15). In the best match of the day Bejaia (ALG) showed the best backline defense in the opening day to defeat FAP (CMR) 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-21).
