Stiinta got the right boost for their debut in Europe’s elite competition recording three wins in as many matches to keep a perfect record in the Romanian national league.
A couple of weeks before they join the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League for a second consecutive season, Stiinta BACAU organised a press conference to discuss with local and national media their expectations for the campaign where they will play Turkey’s giant Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL, France’s rookie NANTES VB and Azerbaijan’s Azyerol BAKU.
The media event was attended by head coach Florin Grapa, team captain Denisa Rogojinaru and another key player on the roster of the Romanian champions, Alexandra Sobo.
“You can’t expect to have an easy group in this competition,” coach Grapa said. “My primary goal is to repeat our performance from last year when we won two matches but I believe that if we can take nine points from our games, we can realistically achieve even more. Last year we were in the same group as Dinamo KAZAN which eventually went on to win the title; this time some more elite teams will come to Bacau and I hope that our supporters will flock to the sports hall and cheer us on. In my opinion Fenerbahce and Azeryol are the pre-favourites in this group but we will fight for every point.”
