Belgium – Finland
Belgium hosted Finnish team in Kortrijk for the second time in two days and again won three points in Pool E – 3-1 (29-27, 23-25, 25-16, 25-10). Including two matches of these rivals, a week ago, Belgians noted all four wins.
The battle for every point occured in the first two sets. In Set 1, Belgium recovered 4 set balls and converted into 29-27.
Finland had the inititiative in the second set and althought the home team saved two set balls, it was 1-1.
Instead of collecting strength and making a complete turnaround, Finland’s spirit disappeared. Belgium simply swept out the opponent led by Sam Deroo (22 points) and Gert van Walle (17).
Finland’s top scorers were Olli-Pekka Ojansivu with 21 and Urpo Sivula with 16 points.
