NORCECA CH M: Cuba and Mexico have 2-0 score, 1st win for Puerto Rico

Cuba defeated Trinidad and Tobago in straight sets to grab their second victory in Pool B at the 24th NORCECA Continental Championship in Córdoba, Mexico.

The team coached by Rodolfo Sánchez won 25-11, 25-13 and 25-12 with a blocking (9-1) and service dominance (10-0). Rolando Cepeda closed as top scorer for Cuba with nine points. Ryan Stewart scored five for the Trinidadians.

In the same pool, Mexico beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) to keep their undefeated streak at the tournament. Nestor Orellana from home team topped with 13 points, while Richard Smith-Hall finished with 10 for the Costa Rican squad.

Puerto Rico prevailed over Honduras 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) to record their first victory in Pool A. Maurice Torres, Mannix Román and Sequiel Sánchez closed as top scorers for Puerto Rico after scoring nine points each. Ornello Watler was the best scorer for Honduras, after finishing with seven points.

Recall, top-four teams from NORCECA Continental Championship will grab a spot at Olympic Qualifications in January (pool leaders and two more teams that past quarterfinals). USA does not participate at NORCECA Continental Championship as they secured Rio spot by winning the World Cup in Japan.
