After so many controversies and tensions about participation of the Russian Women’s National Team at the 2016 Olympic Qualifiying Tournament in Ankara, it seems that the things have settled down.

Due to distubed political relations between Russian and Turkey in previous month after shot down of the Russian plane in Syrian-Turkish border, the Russian VF sent clear message that it won’t send Women’s NT to Ankara on January 4-9. They already prevented its Men’s clubs to play the CEV Champions League matches in Turkey (CEV’s decision on that is still on hold).

But, on yesterday’s CEV ceremony in Luxembourg City „Road to Rio“, its Preseident, Serbian Aleksandar Boričić, confirmed that Ankara will host the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, despite rumors that some other country (Italy pointed out candidacy) will organize event instead of Turkish capital.

„Our focus today is on the two much anticipated Olympic qualifying events coming up in early January. I would like to thank our friends from Germany and Turkey for providing the right stage for our players to perform as they try to fulfil the lifelong dream of any athlete, which is to perform at the Olympics,” Boričić said.
