Sarmayeh vs. Tabriz
Sarmayeh entered game with 15 wins in a row, having leadership on the table and as hosts, but fifth-placed Tabriz imposed their power from the start of the match shocking fans in Tehran 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18). Mikaeil Tajer from the winning team was the best player of the game with 37 points, while Adel Gholami was topped Sarmayeh’s scorers with 11 points.
„Our players have reached a high level of self-confidence. Today and in previous game (vs. Urmia 3-0) they played in front of gigantic rivals. Setters of both teams (Urmia and Sarmayeh) were fantastic, but our serves were perfect and I wanted my players to continue serving hard even by the cost of committing errors. Our reception was perfect, too. Actually, in every segment we played well,” Adel Banakr, head coach of Tabriz said.
Ardakan Arman caused another major upset after beating Shahrdari Urmia VC in 18th week. As hosts, they defeated Saipa Alborz VC 3-2 (19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) and kept their chances to qualify for the playoffs. Since Arman already took three points (technical win 3-0) from the game Shahrdari Zahedan VC (disqualified by the Iran’s VF), in the final round they will cheer for today’s opponents in the match against Kalleh Sports Club to secure playoff spot.
Home team of Paykan Tehran needed to beat Matin Varamin for securing second place in the standings for play-off round while Varamin also needed victory for avoiding eighth place. Therefore, the game was important for both sides. It was a tough game, but Paykan were able to prevail 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 31-29, 25-18).
Mizan Khorasan VC smashed guests Kalleh Sports Club in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20) raising their win number to 13. Before the game, Kalleh had critical situation being in the 8th place on the table so it was obvious that by losing this match they will have hard time to qualify for the playoffs. Amin Alavi from Khorasan had 20 points while Saeid Shirood from Kalleh had eight points.
The game between Shahrdari Urmia VC and Bazargani Javaheri Gonbad VC did not take place. Gonbad were not able to arrive to match in Urmia due to financial difficulties. According to league’s regulations, Urmia scored technical win 3-0.
