Shanghai made a huge first step towards defending the championship title in a duel of two previous Chinese title holders.
Interestingly, this time Italian duo was not at the top of the scoresheet in Shanghai. It was domestic player, Dai Qingyao with 24 points while Giulio Sabbi added 16 and Cristian Savani 13 points.
Unlike Shanghai, foreign players were the best scorers in Beijing, as usual. Australian Thomas Edgar had 18 while Cuban Leonel Marshall added 17.
The second match in Chinese playoff finals between current champions and bronze medalists is scheduled for February 20, also at Shanghai’s court. Afterwards, the series is moving to Beijing, on the court of a top-seeded team.
In the bronze medal series, Shandong beat Sichuan on road in straight sets with 15 points from Kou Zhichao. The Pole Zbigniew Bartman topped Sichuan’s scorers with 18.
