In the other semifinals, Shahrdari Urmia VC defeated guest team of Paykan Tehran 3-1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-20, 25-14) in „Ghadir“ gymnasium after two hours and ten minutes of a battle and kept their hopes for qualifying to the playoff finals alive. For that, they will have to win the third game which will be played in Tehran, on March 2.
An interest in the game was enormous. About four hours prior to the game, Urmia’s supporters were waiting to enter the gymnasium which was packed 90 minutes before the start of the match.
Saeid Marouf, the capitan of Urmia, was constantly objecting to the referee and received yellow and red card which set spectators on fire. They were throwing objects on the field so, Urmia’s coach Jahangir Seyed Abbasi was asked to address the fans and ask them to calm down.
Bulgarian Nikolay Nikolov, Italian Valerio Vermiglio and Farhad Salafzoon from Paykan also got yellow and red card from the first referee. Arash Keshavarzi, one of key players in Urmia, suffered injury.
„I hope that Arash Keshavarzi will get better for Wednesday’s game. We will be highly motivated for the third game and reaching the finals,“ Abbasi said after the match.
