Peru has kept its dream of a long-awaited return to the Olympics alive with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 26-24) win over the Dominican Republic at the Olympic qualifier in Tokyo, a result which also makes the task for Dominica to get to Rio very tough.

Best scorer of the match was 19-year-old Peruvian Ángela Leyva with 22 points while Brayelin Martinez scored 12 for Dominican Republic.

On the other side Italy added another win. They haven’t earned their ticket yet, but their 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16) win over Thailand was impressive and sent out a very clear statement to the remaining teams in Tokyo trying to earn their place at the 2016 Olympics.

This time Paola Ogechi Egonu was the top scorer with 17 points while Ajcharaporn Kongyot scored 15 for Thailand .
