EL W: First participation and they go to finals – Slovakia meet Azerbaijan for gold

In front of own crowd in Baku, Azerbaijan repeated good performance from first leg to claim the re-match of the 2016 CEV European League semifinals with Greece as well 3-1 (25-22, 9-25, 25-15, 25-16).

Thus, after double win (3-1 in first leg), Azerbaijani NT advanced to the finals of European version of the FIVB World League where it will play against rookies Slovakia. Polina Rahimova topped Azerbaijani scorers with 19 points. Anthi Vasilantonaki had 12 for Greece.

In their premiere participation in the tournament, Slovakia progressed to the gold medal duel. After prevailing in the first leg against Slovenia on road (3-2), they once more beat same rivals 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-15). Jaroslava Pencová was the best scorer in the winning team with 18 points while Živa Recek collected 13 in Slovenia.

The first match of finals is scheduled for June 30 in Nitra, Slovakia, followed by re-match on July 3 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
