It was a very uncertain game. Probably one of the best so far at the Olympic volleyball tournament.
The Dutch team had a much better start of the game as they created 12-6 lead. Afterwards, Chinese side made some excellent digs, playing very good in defense, to provide good balls for the setter Wei Qiuyue, who was delivering balls to main hitter Zhu Ting. Guidetti’s side managed to extend the set with a good run but Lang Ping’s team prevailed after all 27-25.
We had the similar situation in the second set with the different outcome. Now, China had a better start, but they didn’t manage to keep the lead and The Netherlands got away with a 25-23 to tie the score.
In the third set, Dutch team was leading all the time. Hui Ruoqi’s spike gave China first lead in the set 24-23 then both sides traded points for another set extension. After De Kruijf’s serve mistake and spike of Zhu Ting, China took the lead in sets 2-1 (29-27).
Fourth set was very uncertain as well. Zhu Ting was the player who scored for 22-20 and it was enough as they managed to keep the advantage and later to win the game.
Zhu Ting ended match with 33 points and was the most dominant player of the game. On the other side, Lonneke Sloetjes had 19 points.
China will meet Serbia in the final game. Recall that Serbian team beat Chinese side in straight sets during the group stage. The Netherlands will fight for a bronze against the U.S. team.
