Thailand experienced a shaky start in the first and second set as they faced a defence-fortified Iranian side.
Iran showed impressive form on the opening set – moving better on defence and showing stronger attack tactics against the faltering Thailand side – posting an 8-5 advantage towards the first technical timeout. However, Thailand were quick on their feet and showed patience and better movement on their offense to get back in the match and took the eventual 25-19 first set win.
Thailand took a 25-18 victory in the second set but suffered again some early difficulties in the set as Iran applied pesky defence to the Thai attackers. Thailand had to counter this difficulty through playmaking genius Nootsara Tomkom, who had to pick up the phase and get her hitters to attack better against the Iranian block.
The third set was much easier for Thailand as they pulled-off a commanding lead at 11-3. With their usual attack scheme already in place, Thailand had no reason to look back and secured the quarterfinal victory at 25-16.
