WoV Player Of The Year – Women’s Competition

Let us present you the players we have put in our official Poll for the WoV Player Of The Year award.

Zhu Ting (Henan/VakifBank): It just enough to write – The MVP of the Olympic Games 2016. Zhu Ting shined in Rio where she led China toward their 3rd Olympic gold in women’s volleyball.

After the Rio adventure, Zhu Ting arrived in Europe to start their first ever season abroad. She became a member of VakifBank Istanbul and showed her remarkable volleyball skills already at the first bi tournament. Zhu Ting was the top scorer of the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. She is the only player in the history of the competition to have been top scorer twice.

Natalia Zilio Pereira (Rexona Sesc/Fenerbahce): This was quite a year for Natalia. She firstly won the Brazilian Cup with Rexona Sesc, then she clinched the trophy in South American Club Championship, also with Rexona Sesc, while finally she became the champions of Brazil with the same club.

After the 2015/16 club season was over, Natalia joined the Brazil women’s national team and won the Grand Prix 2016. On top of that, she was named the MVP of the competition! The only bad thing that happened to her in 2016 was staying without the medal at the Rio Olympics, as Brazil was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Lonneke Sloetjes (VakifBank): Dutch star will definitely remember this year by good things, although she could have won more trophies. Sloetjes won the national title in Turkey with VakifBank, while her team finished at the 2nd place in the 2015/16 CEV Champions League.

The story with the national team was even more special. Sloetjes and the rest of the Orange crew qualified for the Rio Olympics where they had a wonderful journey. Still, at the end they finished the tournament at the 4th place and stayed without the medal. But it was still the best ever achievement for Netherlands women’s national team at the Olympic Games.

Tijana Bošković (Eczacibasi VitrA): First of all, you should know that Tijana Bošković is just 19 years old, but she is already one of the most dominant players in the volleyball world! Young opposite was part of the Serbian team which made history of this country at the Rio Olympics. Serbia women’s national team won the silver medal, and that was the first ever medal for this team at the Olympic Games.

After that huge success, Bošković rejoined her team Eczacibasi VitrA and immediatelly picked up another major prize. She was named the MVP of the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, while her Eczacibasi VitrA won the tournament.

Tatiana Kosheleva (Dinamo Krasnodar/Eczacibasi VitrA): The summer transfer period perfectly shows how good Tatiana Kosheleva is as volleyball player. Half of Europe wanted her precious signature, while eventually she chose Eczacibasi VitrA and it seems she did not make a mistake.

Kosheleva won the FIVB Women”s Club World Championship with Eczacibasi VitrA, while it is also worth mentioning that earlier this year she won the CEV Cup with her previous club Dinamo Krasnodar.

Rachael Adams (Conegliano/Eczacibasi VitrA): One more member of the current Eczacibasi VitrA squad which is officially the best team in the world. The American middle blocker had a fantastic year, there is no doubt about that.

She clinched the title in Italian Championship with Conegliano, while later during the summer she won the bronze medal with USA national team at the Rio Olympics. Finally, Adams helped Eczacibasi VitrA to become the world’s champion at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Manila.
