The goal of the course was to train new referees and experienced players, enabling them to officiate at local volleyball competitions and school events. The federation has been working very hard in the last couple of years to expend its program in the provinces and in schools. This has resulted in high demand for technical officials to help officiate and coordinate activities across the country.
The workshop covered two basic areas: the national referee level I course and sessions on the practical use of the FIVB Volleyball Cooperation Programme manual.
The course was conducted by certified FIVB Instructors Russell Timothy and Jeffery Pasio.
The youngest of the participants was an 11-year-old, who was awarded with an “Association Referee Level”.
The participants all passed the Level I theory exam and the practical assessments. The SIVF received support for the course from the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) and the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC).
