The hosts imposed their quality from the beginning and took their second win of the day qualifying to the second round, while Aruba wasn’t able to maintain consistency but kept fighting for each and every point.
With 16 points, Lecia Brown, was the best scorer for Jamaica. Aruba had in Jackie Toussaint its best scorer with 9 points. Jamaica was better in blocking by 9-2.
Shedeiky Hamilton, Jamaica´s captain, was pleased with the victory “I am so happy for my team but now we must be focused to play against Barbados. Our execution was good and Aruba got better during the match.”
“We fought hard until the end which gives me satisfaction, we will talk about today’s mistakes because we still can qualify tomorrow” said Jackie Toussaint, captain of Aruba.
For Gatashew Bonner, Jamaica´s coach, this was an important win, “we still have some errors in our passing and we’ll give our best in the second match to Barbados tomorrow night to win the tournament”.
Igmar Ogenia, in charge of Aruba, expressed “Jamaica did very well and also did my team, we can face any opponent as we play hard despite our deficiencies”. This match helped them to prepare for tomorrow’s matches.
