The rulers of Europe, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, started the new season of the Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship with a victory.
The PlusLiga runners-up and CEV Champions League titleholders, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, started the 2021/22 season with a victory. In the derby of the Upper Silesia region, they defeated Stal Nysa 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20). Achieving a confident win with the highly reconstructed squad (lost head coach Grbić and a large group of starters: Toniutti, Zatorski, Kochanowski…), ZAKSA showed it will not give up on vying for the title in Poland. Totally the opposite of them, Nysa kept as many as nine players from the last season. Kamil Semeniuk stood out for the side commanded by Romanian Gheorghe Crețu with 16 points.
Mostly thanks to Belgian Sam Deroo (14 points) and Maciej Muzaj (five aces), Asseco Resovia Rzeszów swept Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, who relocated to nearby city of Iława due to renovation of their hall Urania.
2021/22 Plusliga – Round 1 (today’s match):
