The 2021/22 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship playoffs started with a surprise in Bełchatów.
The 2021/22 PlusLiga quarter-finals started with an upset. No.6 Indykpol AZS Olsztyn sileced the crowd in Bełchatów by defeating the home side of PGE Skra Bełchatów (No.3) with a score of 3-1 and coming to a stepf from advancing to the semi-finals. This was the first defeat of Skra to Olsztyn in the last 4 years. It turned out that 3rd set was crucial for the outcome of the encounter as the hosts squandered a lead of 9-4. Karol Butryn was an absolute highlight tonight, scoring 30 points (5 aces) on the winning side. American Taylor Averill set up 4 blocks.
No.4 Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and No.5 Asseco Resovia Rzeszów staged an excellent spectacle full of twists and turns in Game 1. Ultimately, the former won 3-1 and are closer to reaching the semi-finals. The losing side almost forced the match to the tie-break but failed to convert a lead of 21-17 in the 4th set to tie a duel at 2-2. Serbian Uroš Kovačević led Aluron to the triumph with 27 points.
