POL M: Asseco Resovia Overcomes Injury to Stephen Boyer, Edges Out Trefl Gdańsk in Quarterfinal Clash

In a first match of the PlusLiga quarterfinals, Asseco Resovia narrowly defeated Trefl Gdańsk with a score of 3-2. The match took an unexpected turn during the second set when Stephen Boyer, a key player for the visiting team, sustained a potentially serious ankle injury. Despite this setback, Resovia rallied to take the final two sets, gaining a slight advantage before the rematch scheduled for April 14th in Rzeszow.

Boyer was injured while attempting to block a hit from Kewin Sasak, and had to leave the court with assistance after apparently twisting his ankle. Jakub Bucki stepped in to replace him. Prior to his exit, Boyer had an exceptional performance, scoring 14 points with an attack efficiency of 73%, contributing significantly to his team’s efforts.

The game’s highest scorers were Kewin Sasak from Trefl Gdańsk, who amassed a remarkable 30 points, followed by Mikołaj Sawicki with 23 points. From Asseco Resovia, Torey DeFalco led with 24 points, followed by Boyer’s 14. DeFalco was also named MVP of the match.

In the other quarterfinal, Projekt Warszawa overcame an initial loss to dominate the remaining sets against Bogdanka LUK Lublin, winning 3-1. After dropping the first set 16-25, Warszawa secured consecutive victories with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-19. The return matches are set for Sunday, April 14, promising more intense action as the teams battle for a semifinal berth.
