POL W: Wolosz leader of the “New Poland”

by WoV

Joanna Wolosz is marshalling Poland’s national team at the second-round qualifier for the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Women that is taking place these days at the Resega ice hall in Lugano. The 24-year old setter could celebrate a couple of victories with her team so far even though Saturday’s match turned into a hard nut to crack as the players in red and white jerseys fought back from two sets down before edging Ukraine at the tie-break.

“Last night (Friday) we had finished our first match quite late, we had no time to rest and therefore today we started out very bad,” Wolosz says. “However, we found our way back into the game and could win in the end. This makes me very happy because we have come here with a very young team. This victory has a better taste because the first match with Switzerland was quite easy. I hope we can finish the tournament with an immaculate record after the last match which is coming up on Sunday with Latvia.”

Wolosz just spent her first season in Italy with Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO with whom she could celebrate a silver medal in the national league after a very sloppy start into the regular season. “I feel quite tired because we have had a very long season but this European qualifier is very important for our national team and especially to start a new cycle with this young group. After spending my summer in Poland I will come back to Italy and plunge into another adventure with Unendo Yamamay. The club is very special, especially thanks to their supporters. Today they even came to Lugano to cheer on me. They are just amazing and they made my heart beat strong,” Wolosz concludes.
