There is a moment in the career of every athlete when he or she simply needs to change the environment, the club, the city, to seek new challenges. Regardless of numerous titles won in that particular club. Reading a statement of an American Men’s Volleyball international Matthew Anderson, this seems to be the exact reason for leaving Zenit Kazan at the end of the season...

The U.S. national team outside hitter Matthew Anderson felt comfortable in Zenit Kazan in the previous seven seasons during which he won 18 trophies with the Russian club and played 270 matches. He will defend the colors of Azimut Leo Shoes Modena in Italy next season and he proudly announced it a week ago despite the fact that the ongoing season is not over yet.

“When I first came here, I couldn’t have imagined that I will spend seven years in Kazan. But each successive decision to stay here for another year was undoubtedly the right one for my sporting career in general – for my playing for the U.S. national team and for my performances at the club level for Zenit. Now I need a little change, first of all in a club career. I already thought about leaving Kazan a couple of years ago but I wasn’t ready to take that step. I wasn’t ready to leave this hall in which there’s constantly high pressure on players and maximum expectations, who either break you or make you stronger. Now I see that I have accumulated rich experience including fighting pressure and competing at the highest level. And now I believe, this is the right decision for me. Seven years here is a long time but it was a great time during which we won a lot and we continue to win. And ahead we have a chance to win a couple more trophies,“ Anderson explained in an interview for the club YouTube channel why he made a decision to leave Zenit.
