There were no surprises in the opening round of the 2019/20 Russian Men’s Volleyball Championship regular season.

Lokomotiv

In the derby of the neighbors from the region of Siberia, the hosts Lokomotiv needed 5 sets to emerge victoriously from the first-round match of the 2019/20 Superliga Parimatch regular season against Enisey: 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 15-13). The team from Novosibirsk was deprived of help from the two starters due to injuries – middle blockers Ilyas Kurkaev (suffered an ankle injury at 2019 EuroVolley and is currently undergoing examinations in Germany) and Maksim Kulikov. Konstantin Bakun top-scored for Lokomotiv with 20 points, followed by Serbian Marko Ivović (19 points). Ukrainian international Ian Iereshchenko poured in 24 points for Enisey.

Dinamo Moscow, Zenit Saint Petersburg and Belogorie recorded straight-set wins, all three at home. The latter faced the toughest resistance but Gazprom-Yugra (also known as Surgut) was unable to do more than extending the second set to 30 points overall: 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-21).

One more team beat its rivals by a 3-0. Led by the duo Nikita Alekseev – Denis Biryukov who scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, Ural prevailed over the visiting side of Dinamo-LO.
