The traditional pre-season volleyball tournament in Russia, the women’s Governor’s Cup of the Kaliningrad region, has started with wins of Uralochka-NTMK and Lokomotiv.

A match between the Russia National Team and the bronze medalists of the last Superliga, Uralochka-NTMK, opened the 2020 Women’s Governor’s Cup of the Kaliningrad region. Surprisingly, “Zbornaya“ was defeated by a 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15)! It has to be stressed that Sergio Busato’s ladies gathered to train only one week prior to the tournament so it certainly affected today’s performance.

Rules of the tournament say that in case a player from a club that participates in it is also on the national team list, she’ll play for a club when the national team and that club meet. Such a case was with Kseniya Parubets on Day 1 of the tournament. She was the top scorer of Uralochka against Russia with 25 points. Irina Voronkova collected 13 points for the country’s national team.

In the second match of the first day, the hosts and silver medalists of the last Superliga, Lokomotiv, swept the champions Dinamo-Kazan, whose new name is Dinamo-Ak Bars, by a 3-0.

2020 Women’s Volleyball Governor’s Cup of the Kaliningrad region – Day 1:

Russia – Uralochka-NTMK 1-3 (26-24, 17-25, 15-25, 15-25)

Lokomotiv – Dinamo-Ak Bars 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-18)
