One of the leading players of the USA national team became the successor of Alexander Butko, who moved to Kuzbas Kemerovo.

As a member of the USA national team, Christenson won the World League and the World Cup, bronze medal at the Olympic Games (2016) and the World Cup (2018). He was named the best setter of the World Cup (twice), VNL and World Championship.

Christenson is the sixth American player in the history of the Zenit Kazan. Before him, the colors of Zenit were defended by Lloy Ball (2006-2011), Clayton Stanley (2006-2010), Reid Priddy (2010-2012), Matthew Anderson (2012-2019) and David Lee (2012/13).

At the club level, he played in the Italian championship so far. He spent three seasons at Cucine Lube Civitanova (2015-2018) and three seasons as a member of Leo Shoes Modena (2018-2021). With Civitanova, he won Italian League (2017) and Italian Cup (2017). With Modena he took Italian Super Cup (2018).

Dmitry Volkov is expected to be Zenit Kazan second reinforcement, but this transfer has not yet been confirmed. He was a member of Fakel Novy Urengoy last season.
