Russian side Leningradka hit what will certainly be one of the biggest jackpots in the women’s summer volleyball transfer market.
Leningradka, a club that is considered average on the Russian women’s volleyball scene, engaged one of the best setters in the world – Laura Dijkema. The member of the Netherlands National Team came to the Saint Petersburg side from the reigning Russian Superliga champions Lokomotiv, which makes this transfer a big hit.
A 31-year-old player, who has been playing professional volleyball for 15 years, was a key player – along with German Louisa Lippmann – in a historical success of Lokomotiv last season. Apart from this title, Dijkema has won Dutch Championship, German Championship, Dutch Cup, and German Cup two times each, as well as the Italian Championship and German Cup once each. At the 2017 CEV EuroVolley, she was named Best Setter.
