Tuomas Sammelvuo is no longer the head coach of the Russia Men’s Volleyball National Team.
The post of the Russia Men’s National Team remained vacant after the country’s federation (VFV) decided to part ways with Sammelvuo. The contract with Finn hasn’t been extended. As the President of the VFV, Stanislav Shevchenko, told Russian media, the reason for not resuming the collaboration with Sammelvuo won’t be revealed in public as it was “an internal affair of the federation’s presidium”. The head of the VFV stressed that the names of the candidates, which are 3 or 4, to take the post won’t be disclosed yet but what’s sure is that it will be a Russian expert.
Sammelvuo was appointed head coach of the national team in March 2019. Under his command, ‘Zbornaya’ won the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and reached the final of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where they lost to France.
