“A few days before the match, the Turkish side sent a letter through its Consulate General asking us to pay attention to the arrival of its delegation and to provide additional security measures,” said Oleg Bryzgalov, Sporting Director of Zenit.
He added that they had counter request for Halkbank – not to take their fans to Russia. Turkish team obeyed to request and organized group of fans didn’t arrive to Kazan.
By the decision of the Russian Volleyball Federation, teams from that country didn’t travel to Turkey for the Champions League matches scheduled on December 1-2 because of unstable political situation between Russia and Turkey.
It is yet unknown what is going to be an official reaction of European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) on this matter.
